F.A.Q.
Where are you located?
We are located at LABRADOR COMMUNITY CENTRE, 57 Billington Street, Labrador, Gold Coast, Queensland.
Our painting sessions are held from 10am till 4pm every Tuesday.
Can anyone join in?
Any community member over the age of 18 who is able to work independently as well as in groups , and capable of joining in the regular activities of the group. Members must be willing to commit to attending weekly art sessions and becoming involved in the running of the group. This includes setting up prior to art meeting and cleaning up afterwards and helping out at workshops and exhibitions. A condition of membership is also that you present at least one short mini-workshop or art demonstration per year (with help if you wish)
What if I don't paint or create art, but want to be involved anyway?
We always welcome anyone who would like to be involved in helping us. We offer a 'Friends of Cafe iQ membership, whereby you will receive a membership card, newsletters and invitations to our exhibitions. You do not need to come to our art sessions. Simply go to the CONTACT US page for more info.
Do you supply art materials for use during art sessions?
Yes we do supply basic art materials free (except canvasses) for use during art sessions. We are only able to supply these due to donations and grants. We do charge a Membership Fee of $10 initial registration, then $50 per year to help cover running costs and public liability insurance. These materials can not be taken home and must remain at Cafe iQ, but you can take your artwork home with you.. It is BYO canvasses, and any other art materials you would like to bring for your own use. Wear your old clothes and bring lunch or you can purchase at nearby shops.
Why do you supply basic art materials to members for free?
We supply them for free because we find that many people are hesitant to either begin or restart their art enjoyment. By having the art materials on hand, they feel more inclined to join in, simply because everyone else is.
Do I have to do art if I want to join in to art sessions?
Absolutely. It does not have to be visual arts though, it can be any type of art that you enjoy. Any of the arts are encouraged - sculpture, printing, theatre groups, writing groups, music groups, poetry groups. You can attend for maximum of two meetings for $4 per session before committing to membership. Then joining fee is $10 and $50 per year thereafter. The first time you come you can observe if you like.
What is expected of me if I join Cafe iQ as a full member, as an artist.
Because we are a self run group, you will be expected to be actively involved in the running of the group, which includes any work necessary when we hold exhibitions, or displays. You will also be expected to contribute your ideas to the group and be able and willing to act upon them. You will also be expected to present at least one short art mini-workshop per year (with help). We are not a support group, we are self motivated, and therefore everyone is expected to do their share, including cleaning up after each art session, as well as helping out at any Workshops or exhibitions we hold. There is a small membership fee of $10 registration then $50 per year to join as an active artist Full Member, to help cover costs including public liability insurance and administration. You are welcome to come along for the first two weeks for free to see if CAFEiQ is for you before you join.
